Approximately 5 minutes after my last post one of my distant neighbors pulled up to inform me that my little brother was in a wreck and no one could reach my family. I left my phone in the house and my parents were out for dinner; Dad’s phone was lost last week and Mom’s wasn’t charged.
I threw a pair of shorts on, grabbed my keys and ran out of the house to get to my brother. Because he is a minor and they couldn’t reach my parents they released him to the hospital, which is 30 minutes away.
All anyone would tell me was “he’s fine, really” which is pretty much exactly what I was told about my father when he was in a life-threatening accident that hospitalized him for nearly 4 months when I was in high school. Between that, the fact that I couldn’t see him, and the traffic that kept me from getting on the road quickly, I had a mini panic attack. My whole body was shaking and I couldn’t catch my breath…I’ve never felt like that before.
Luckily my brother really is okay, just understandably upset. I drove him home from the hospital and now we’re watching tv…I’m just so glad he’s here.
